#4 Rhyme of the Tick-Tocks: The Clock Tower of Maniktala Bazar

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

Peeled off skin, loss of color, loss of glow.

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

Wrinkles on my face, pale dome on my head.

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

Cable wires giving me itch, making a cage around me.

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

The retired crows, the mynas, the sparrows seek shelter in my body spots.

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

The Mother Dairy sponsorship makeup fading away slowly.

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

My hands don’t want to move anymore, my voice wants to be speechless.

I am tired of working, I am tired of these honking sounds,

I want permanent retirement, just like that chap of Shyambazar,

I want to stop, I really do

Oh, my age is too much for me to bear,

The Maniktala’s Clock does not have any kind of death to fear.

Manicktala Bazar is one of the oldest, if not the oldest market place of Kolkata. To gather its origin I need an historian who knows Kolkata top to bottom. So imagine the lost history of this marvellous clock tower above the market?
